The Twitter Story
President Trump has always been very active on Social Media, from the day the presidency started
Oke, let's kick of with Twitter
@realdonaltrump account has over 88,783,411 according to the last count before the account shutdown His list of tweets over the years is amazing
The first row is the number of tweets in that period, the second row, the number of daily tweets
He probably thought in the last period, as long as I keep repeating, people will understand what I mean. For example, Joe Biden only made 167 tweets in the last 30 days.
Many of the tweets made by Trump in the last period of 2-3 months were flagged as false content by Twitter, which annoyed Trump in many ways.
Twitter shut down his account this week after a total of 57.000 posts.
For now Twitter will not (yet) shut down the Potus and White house accounts, as long it's not violating the rules. Both accounts are still used by the president. Many experts state that of the 89 million Twitter followers on his own account, a third of them are fake accounts. The first tweet made by this account was :
—Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 4, 2009 “Be sure to tune in and watch Donald Trump on Late Night with David Letterman as he presents the Top Ten List tonight!” The most popular tweet ever made by the president was just last year, announcing that the First Lady was diagnosed with Covid_19
—Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 4, 2009 “Be sure to tune in and watch Donald Trump on Late Night with David Letterman as he presents the Top Ten List tonight!”
Over 1,9 million liked this one, about 2% of his audience.
Trump made some special tweets about White House matters, like firing people on Twitter a few times.
He also made some mistakes with the wrong type of tweets and deleted over 1.166 tweets himself
Not only Trump's account was stopped by Twitter, also Michael Flynn and lawyer Sidney Powell's accounts were silenced.
Many followers and fans of Trump now turn to an app called Parler. Nevertheless this won't last very long as well. Apple and Google just warned the app of taking actions. If they don't meet Apple and Google's terms, they will be banned from the app stores.
How about Facebook
Facebook took quite a different approach with Trump over the years. Facebook almost never flagged content as false information and took a silent approach and Mark Zuckerberg didn't take a stand like the CEO of Twitter did.
Trump had a total of 33 million fans on Facebook.
One of the downsides of the Facebook page is the lack of organic reach on Facebook pages. It only shows to a few percent of the likes.
This is shown by this graph where we see that Joe Biden's account has much less fans, but they are way more active
Facebook has blocked Trump's account for the remaining of his presidency.
Facebook had quite an internal discussion about how to deal with Trump after the coup last week.
We wrote another article about that
So what about Instagram As well as Facebook, daughter company Instagram also blocked Trump's Instagram account
The numbers there:
24,6 million followers and 6.076 posts.
Both accounts Insta/Facebook Trump used as active as Twitter.
Just. a 10th of the number of posts.
The TikTok story
Trump is not so very fond of TikTok as we all know.
The tried to ban TikTok in the US over the last 8 months. Untill now with no real success. This anger comes from two sides, first the fact that it's a chinese company, but also the fact that TikTok users made fun of him on TikTok.
He never did anything on TikTok himself.
To make his point, he created an account on TikTok rival" Triller" a US based company
His account has 959k followers, and Triller is still a fan of Trump as is appears, the account is not blocked in any way.
His opening movie on Triller on August 14th hit 53 million views. The best video after this start gained 1,8 million views.
YouTube Youtube took a stand as well.
They banned Trump's channel on Youtube at last and deleted thousands of videos prior to that.
Trump's channel has over 2,68 million followers.
YouTube adopted a new policy that makes it easier to suspend the president and others for pushing false election claims.
Amazon’s livestreaming service Twitch, the e-commerce company Shopify and PayPal also shut down accounts associated with Mr. Trump or his supporters.
In just 4 years time President Trump made over 100.000 posts on social media with a follower count of almost 150 million people. Of course many of them are "doubles" on the channels and many seem to be fake.
Nevertheless , the numbers are way higher than any other public figure or brand on Social Media.
One of the new gossip from the last few days is the idea that Trump is going to start it's own channel.
Perhaps a take over of Triller might be an option
