Twitter’s New Partnership with Reuters and AP
In order to improve efforts to elevate reliable information on the platform and slow the spread of falsehood, Twitter has just recently announced a partnership with the Associated Press (AP) and Reuters.
According to Twitter:
"We are committed to making sure that when people come to Twitter to see what’s happening, they are able to easily find reliable information. Twitter will be able to expand the scale and increase the speed of our efforts to provide timely, authoritative context across the wide range of global topics and conversations that happen on Twitter every day."
Twitter’s new partnerships will be tied into Twitter’s contextual explainers. During major events, these explainers will now be shown within Search, trends, Explore, and different highlights and prompts.

As can be seen in the image above, Twitter has clearly been working on optimizing their explainers in order for them to be as useful as possible. Twitter’s topic listings explainers are displayed in several windows on the platform in order to link reliable sources as well as reduce the impact and spread of misinformation in tweets. Moreover, aside from explainers, Twitter also added example tweets to topic listings back in September.
Through the new partnerships with AP and Reuters, Twitter’s curators will now be able to access and manage real time updates around several important conversations. Through the different established and reliable sources on the platform, Twitter’s numerous teams are now able to collect and manage information as quickly as possible, which could potentially help the platform boost trending topics, while at the same time controlling the spread of false information.
The new partnership is basically allowing Twitter to tap into the same sources that Reuters and AP use, allowing the platform’s numerous content management teams to stay updated. This will allow for listings to become even more reliable and for curators to keep themselves updated.
The new partnership may prove to be a big and important update for Twitter, as it may have a large impact on the platform’s numerous processes.
Moreover, as Twitter is widely known as a key distributor of misinformation, the new update is sure to prove to be extremely helpful as the platform tries to combat the spread of false information. However, while Twitter’s efforts will not be able to totally counter bots which artificially boost post discussion, providing more context to users is sure to be a big step in combating the insane spread.
