TikTok Tests New Feature to Tag Other Users in Video Clips

TikTok is experimenting with a new video tagging function that allows you to tag other users in your recordings to increase engagement. The new option, as shown in this example from social media specialist Matt Navarra (via Sam Schmir), is in addition to the existing @mention option within the post captions, allowing you to keep your caption text free of mentions but still prompting other accounts to alert them to your clip.

In this regard, it wouldn't be a significant change in terms of functionality, but it would provide another, more integrated means of linking to other creators and/or profiles, which could help to promote both your own and other people's presence – while it could also provide another way for brands to boost community engagement by alerting top supporters or creative partners to your latest uploads and clips.

This could be especially useful in that situation. What if you had a list of TikTok profiles who had previously asked questions about one of your items featured in another video, or had asked a query about a new update or feature in a Q&A session? You'd be able to tag them specifically, alerting them to these replies or updates, which might help give your videos a more personalized feel.

However, while you could technically do this previously by @mentioning them in the caption, this could be a better method to both tag relevant people while keeping your description generic and clutter-free, as well as highlight content partners. In either case, it could be a new element to try out. TikTok is currently testing the new feature, and there are no plans for a wide launch at this time.
