TikTok Starts Testing TikTok Stories

Isabel Encinares

Some of the biggest social media platforms, such as Instagram and Snapchat, have all introduced some kind of ‘Stories’ feature. Following in their footsteps, TikTok has just announced that they will be releasing a new feature called “TikTok Stories.”

TikTok Stories were first shared by Twitter user and social media commentator Matt Navarra, who posted a few screenshots showcasing the new feature. Based on these photos, TikTok Stories will function very similarly to Snapchat’s story feature.

The new TikTok Stories feature will be accessible via a slide-over sidebar, available on the left-hand side of the screen. Through this sidebar, users will be able to create and view stories posted by accounts in the past 24 hours. Similar to other Stories features, TikTok Stories will disappear 24 hours after posting. However, users who have posted and shared stories will be given the option to delete them even before 24 hours have passed.

Similar to Snapchat and Instagram Stories, TikTok Stories viewers are given the option to react or reply to stories they view in the app. Moreover, users will also be able to view anyone’s stories by clicking their profile picture.

In an email to The Verge, TikTok has confirmed the development and testing of TikTok stories, and have stated that this feature will give users new ways to interact with their followers.

According to a TikTok spokesperson:

"Currently, we’re experimenting with ways to give creators additional formats to bring their creative ideas to life for the TikTok community."

In order to post or share TikTok Stories, users must open the new in-app sidebar and must tap the “create” button. Through this process, users will also be able to access a number of customization options, such as captions, music, and text features.
