TikTok Collaborates with MTV on New 'Trending: VMA' Awards
TikTok is seeking to broaden its cultural influence by collaborating with MTV's VMAs to produce a new, dedicated set of awards that will be voted on solely by TikTok users.
The new TikTok ‘Trending: VMA' awards will honor “creators and artists who are shaping music trends and culture.”
According to TikTok:
“Beginning today, fans can vote for their favorites in categories like Best Breakthrough Song, Best Audio Mashup, and Best Artist x Creator Collab exclusively on TikTok.”
Several TikTok-famous music and performers will be in the running, resulting in increased user engagement as people race to support their favorite stars in the app.
On September 10th, MTV will broadcast live from its TikTok account the official “Trending: VMAs” award celebration, which will feature artist performances and special guest presenters.
TikTok has quickly become a significant channel for musicians, with the app's growing popularity aiding exposure. And, because music is such an essential part of many platform trends, it can have the ability to reach a large audience if your song hits the right notes.
Matter of fact, one of TikTok's most popular viral videos, which includes user @DoggFace skating down the street while listening to Fleetwood Mac, resulted in Fleetwood Mac's 1977 album 'Rumors' returning to the top 10 on the Billboard chartlast year, owing solely to TikTok's popularity.
Many other well-known musicians are now striving to match with TikTok trends, including changing the names of their tracks to better reflect how TikTok users interact with their music.
As a result, it stands to reason for TikTok and MTV to connect with these trends to build their respective cultural capital - and, as previously stated, it appears probable that the ‘Trending: VMA' event will be a hit, helping to drive even more interest in the app.
