Snap Map Gets a New 'Layers' Option to Highlight Memories and Popular Locations
Snapchat is seeking to improve the functionality of its Snap Map feature by adding a new 'Layers' toggle that allows users to adjust the map's focus. Users can pick between several presentation options on the map using Snap's new Layers toggle, which can be found at the upper right of the Snap Map display, as shown in this example.

The first option, 'Memories,' will show you some of your favorite Snap moments from the previous 12 months, along with the locations where they occurred. Meanwhile, 'Explore' will show you public Snaps from other locations, giving you a better sense of what's going on throughout the world. The different options provide users more flexibility in how they use the Snap Map, which might lead to more people engaging with the display to relive prior experiences and learn more about their surroundings, as well as connect with friends and discover local companies.

Snap is also working on adding other layers, such as 'Partnered Layers,' which will allow advertisers to fund specific map listings to help promote their businesses.
Snap first revealed Layers during its partner conference in May, stating that businesses will be able to upload data directly to their maps in the future. With over 250 million Snapchatters engaging with the Snap Map regularly, it could be an excellent alternative for marketing your brand and communicating via a more dedicated, less cluttered overlay on the screen.
It'll be fascinating to watch how this affects user engagement with the Map, as well as what additional features Snap could implement to increase interaction. Snap's new Layers option is available starting today.
