Photo-Sharing App 'BeReal' is Quickly Rising Up the Download Charts
Are you familiar with BeReal and are you aware that it is a growing social app?
BeReal is a photo sharing app that focuses on true, honest connection, providing an unedited picture of social sharing and allowing users to step away from the highly curated feeds of other applications. It is currently a popular social app that's swiftly climbing the download numbers as Apptopia reports that downloads of the app have increased by 315 percent since the beginning of the year.
Users are encouraged to share an image of what they're up to once a day, and they have two minutes to respond. The software uses the front and backward cameras to snap images, allowing you to see not only what the person is doing but also where they are, and the time constraint limits your ability to arrange and alter shots, making things as real as possible.
As you can see, BeReal's popularity is growing, and while we're only talking about the low millions right now (BeReal has been downloaded 7.41 million times), the graph is on the rise, indicating a desire for more honest, raw depictions of people's real-life experiences, as opposed to the airbrushed, edited, and background warped photos that have become the norm in many of the top apps. BeReal is currently ranked fourth in terms of downloads in the US, the UK, and France, behind only Instagram, Snapchat, and Pinterest, according to further data from data.ai (previously App Annie).
BeReal explains it this way:
“BeReal is the simplest photo-sharing app to share once a day your real life in photos with friends. Every day at a different time, everyone captures a photo within 2 minutes. Capture and post in time to discover what your friends are up to.”
“BeReal skews heavily Gen Z in France, with over 80% of its iPhone user base aged 16-24 as of Feb 2022 and Gen Z 180% more likely to use the app. Headquartered in France, BeReal has gained traction with French users, making up 30% of its historical downloads. However, the app is catching on outside of its home market - Q1 2022 QoQ growth spurred by the US, Spain, France, UK, Denmark, and Mexico.”
It might be the next major app fad, and Meta will undoubtedly be looking at its core features and thinking about how to incorporate them into its apps, with a particular focus on Instagram and younger users, as previously said. This occurred as research revealed that Facebook and Instagram usage was declining, with younger users preferring other apps in particular.
Given Meta's previous attempts to stifle TikTok's growth through various forms of replication, you can anticipate it to consider the same in this case. Seven and a half million downloads appear to be a significant number, and if BeReal's popularity grows, the potential of Meta copying its basic services grows as well.
